Fashion Model Karlie KlossFashion Runways and Finance Classes
As Elie Wiesel once said, “There is divine beauty in learning.” Just ask Karlie Kloss, the Victoria’s Secret supermodel. Because when she’s not on the runway for Louis Vuitton or Gucci or doing a photo shoot for Steven Meisel or Mario Testino or off in Beijing or Brazil, Kloss is, well, learning. In fact, this past summer, Kloss hunkered down to study finance at New York University and she's also doing online courses. “Education is very important to me and I’m curious about a lot of different things,” says the 6’1” stunner from St. Louis. “Next I want to learn computer code.”
Galavante chatted for a New York minute with Karlie Kloss.
Galavante: What inspired you to take finance classes at NYU this past summer?
Karlie Kloss: Taking classes is something that I can do for me. Whenever I have down time, I'm always reading the paper, reading books. I love to constantly learn. NYU has an incredible summer class program. I'm hoping to continue to just study business, finance... everything. I want to learn it all.
Galavante: Is there a class that you loved?
Karlie Kloss: I took a really basic fundamentals class – Intro to the Markets. It’s everything on stocks, bonds, mutual funds.
Galavante: Do you have good study habits?
Karlie Kloss: Yes. I am pretty disciplined. I'm good at doing my homework. And I actually enjoy doing my homework. So when I'm not wearing my Victoria’s Secret angel wings, I'm studying.
Galavante: And how about your fellow classmates. How did they respond to you?
Karlie Kloss: It's really funny. I'm so out of place in those classrooms. I took a class where it was all guys and they're business and law school grads. And then there’s me sitting in the middle of this class with my little notebook and pencil. I'm just taking it all in.
Galavante: As far as school goes, what’s next for you?
Karlie Kloss: I signed up for online classes. Computer code is my next thing. Why not? The Internet is the future and why not understand the way it works and how to build something. I’m figuring out how to simultaneously do it all. There’s just not enough time in the day.
Galavante: And where would you love to travel to next?
Karlie Kloss: Actually I'd love to go back to Iceland. I was just in Iceland – it was amazing. I climbed a glacier, and a volcano. I went horseback riding. We stayed at this really little lodge. It feels like you're on Mars. It’s called Hotel Rangá. If you ever have the chance, go.
Galavante: What’s your favorite thing to do in New York City?
Karlie Kloss: I love to spend a day pampering myself. I like to take my sisters and my mom and we have a spa day. We go to Bliss and do the whole nine yards – mani, pedi, massage. It’s the best!
