The event: New Taste of the Upper West Side
The details: May
The scoop: Magnums of Moët, French double air-kissing, Euro DJs, and models with jutting hip bones. St. Tropez? Yes and no. Bagatelle’s one-year anniversary party this week was in humid NYC, in the arrondissement of the Meatpacking. But inside the sleek bistro-club, it was a near-perfect imitation of the south of France. All that was missing were the yachts.
The scene: Bagatelle marked its 2012 reopening by resurrecting its famous boozy brunch. This Saturday tradition celebrates daytime excess, with rivers of rosé, dancing on tables (the golden hour is 4pm, when the curtains are drawn to the outside world), and sparklers – lots of sparklers. This week’s one-year birthday party, hosted by co-owners Aymeric Clemente and Remi Laba, had more of the same, plus the added flash of paparazzi. The tan and perfumed crowd included local celebrities, gossip columnists, fashion elite, and journalists, plus nightlife promoters, their friends, and their friends’ friends.
Spotted: Michael Strahan and girlfriend Nicole Murphy, and soccer players Thierry Henry and Didier Drogba. A few of the French bar staff looked familiar too – that’s because they also work shifts at Cannes and St. Tropez nightspots. It’s a petit monde, after all.
