The place: The Library at Regency Hotel

The space: With all the red-leather upholstery, sweeping drapery, and antique clocks, it’s easy to disappear into the fantasy of a 19th-century gentlemen’s club inside the Library lounge at the Loews Regency Hotel. More tranquil in the afternoons, both the Library and 540 Park restaurant are positively buzzing with celebrity diners like Super Bowl MVP Michael Strahan and Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Set to close for renovations in January 2013, it’s a good time to get in one more of the legendary “power breakfasts” before settling into a cozy smoking chair for a day’s work.

Nosh: The extensive breakfast menu almost supersedes the who’s-who feast for the eyes, including local dishes like Old Chatham New York State yogurt, Streit’s Matzo Brei, and poached eggs with caviar.

Business factor: Although you’re here to do actual work, the layout and vibe is ideal for schmoozing, deal-making, or “accidentally” bumping into potential business partners.
