The place: Crosby Bar at Crosby Street Hotel
The space: It’s impossible to not imagine Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, or Miranda splayed on the ribbon-candy lounge chairs at this impossibly stylish SoHo bar. No doubt they’d come, in part, for the unique ambiance generated by the eclectic yet absorbing collection of art, which includes everything from antique textiles, driftwood mirrors, and globular stained glass. That certain je ne sais quoi comes courtesy of co-owner Kit Kemp, whose keen third eye transforms the diversity into harmony.
Nosh: The contemporary American menu adopts the same free-thinking philosophy as the décor, adding goat cheese and ginger to bacon-wrapped dates, prosciutto to mac and cheese, and pickled raspberries to fennel-arugula salad. A cocktail is also a must, especially the Charlie Bronson with Bulleit Bourbon and Yellow Chartreuse, or the Voodoo Lady with Don Julio Blanco, mango, Tabasco, and ginger beer.
Business factor: The bar’s significant space and style provides both privacy and inspiration to either tap out your newest proposal on your laptop – just stick to the corner seats for access to power outlets – or hold intimate meetings with colleagues and potential partners. Should the distraction be too much or confidentiality too little, ask for access to the privately butlered drawing room across the lobby.
