The place: Tarallucci E Vino
The space: Although there are up to 60 wines sold by the glass at this restaurant in Union Square, the ambiance is decidedly creamy. It’s not just the Ralph Lauren sweaters, orchids, and soundtrack of mellow Euro groove music in the background, but the wafting conversations peppered with words like “guru,” “entrepreneur,” and “visionary.” Off-the-record talks are probably best conducted in the front bar area, while more formal dealings fit well in the leather banquettes stretched along the wall in the back dining area.
The beans: The restaurant produces all their coffee from Lavazza beans, with espressos courtesy of Cimbali.
The complement: Chef Riccardo Bilotta continues the Italian theme with cornetti and treccia alla crema for breakfast and antipasti like octopus salad and sautéed shrimp with chickpeas and mint cream. Try not to leave without tasting the small doughnuts the place is named for.
