Sanctuary T

A Soho Tea Party

The place: Sanctuary T

The space: The farther you step into this earnest SoHo café, the earthier it gets. The oaky, steeped cork walls and ceiling both illuminate the organic spirit of the café and absorb the bursts of street noise that pour in through the open glass doors up front. Drawing a steady stream of customers from the nearby hotels and fashion boutiques, the midday bustle gives way to a louder, loungier clamor in the evenings.

The beans: You can satisfy java cravings with the cafe’s cappuccinos and espressos, brewed from Rome-based Danesi Caffè beans, but the true sanctuary is found in the pure loose-leaf and artisanal blends of white, green, and black tea – imported from wholesalers in Southeast Asia and prescribed according to your condition.

The complement: The tea has also been dumped into the menu of American comfort food, either as a pairing – enjoy a hot tea with the popular honey-drizzled brie on toasted baguette chips – or infused directly into dishes such as ahi tuna tartar with green-tea vinaigrette.
