Pierre Hotel Tea

Work Meets Play
January 28, 2014

The place: Two E Bar and Lounge, The Pierre

The space: At Galavante, we have an affinity for both the old and the new, around the world. If a place can successfully merge the two vibes, even better. Enter Two E Bar at the Pierre. We have a lifetime appreciation for this iconic hotel, and since its $100-million renovation a few years back, it’s become a work-meets-play constant in our professional repertoire. Two E is a great place to kick it old-school while still reaping the benefits of modernity. You’ve got the cozy fireplace (old-school) with contemporary lounge banquettes (new-school). You’re welcome to booze the day away sans judgement (old-school) while plugging away at the laptop, as WiFi is always free (new-school). The restaurant is buzzy enough to feel energetic, but not so loud that you can’t carry on a conversation. We suggest stopping by between meetings in Midtown, or camping out all afternoon until the lights dim and happy hour begins. We just don’t know what more a mobile CEO could ask for.

The menu: Two E is one of the few New York City institutions that still offers a lavish tea service, if you’re taking the dry afternoon route. Expect standbys like fresh cranberry scones with Meyer lemon curd and clotted cream, and macarons, raspberry tartlets, chocolate-dipped madeleines and lemon meringue. But we love the savory options, like caviar sandwiches, egg salad on brioche, asparagus and Boursin-inspired herbed cheese atop a crispy crostini, a buckwheat crêpe with sweet apple and chicken curry canapés. If you’re opting for cocktails, Two E keeps the bar snacks simple and classy with homemade potato chips, olives and chunks of Parmesan. Some things just have staying power.
