The Italian Job

The place: Casa Lever

The vibe: If Barbarella’s spaceship got a makeover by Miuccia Prada, it might look something like the interior of Casa Lever. The restaurant’s bowed white roof and slender walls are given a vibrant splash of ‘60s color from the rotating trove of Andy Warhol silkscreens. The intimate side alcoves feel like an exclusive, first-class train compartment, which affords the clientele of tightly groomed business-makers and socialites the appropriate privacy for discussions sub rosa.

The beans: Casa Lever imports and serves Lavazza espresso coffee pressed in its prized La Cimbali machine. Warm up over the signature espresso with thick hot chocolate, milk froth, and cocoa powder. Or, chill out with an espresso “in ghiaccio” (on the rocks).

The complement: At 3pm, the Italian lunch menu of Milanese pastas and antipasti gives way to coffee-friendly stuzzichini (small bites), like fried-rice arancini filled with veal ragout, and piadina Emiliana – warm flatbread wrapped around prosciutto, crescenza cheese, and arugula.
