The place: Agora Gallery
The space: It’s hard to decide which is more striking – the gallery or the art. This vast Chelsea gallery is a study in angular aesthetics. White walls create private nooks, each flowing into the other like a tumbling waterfall. The segmented spaces provide just enough separation to view the art pensively – hand on chin – without disruption.
The artists: Featured Mexican artists Escoto.Carrara have a simple goal: to create art that moves the spectator. They’ve succeeded. The innovative pair produces deeply expressive and vaguely mysterious pieces inspired by the digital revolution. As part of Agora’s “Art to Heart” exhibit, their featured pieces explore the feminine form, capturing detail with intensely colored oils and photorealistic painting techniques.
The exhibit: At Agora, February is more than just a month for romance and chocolate hearts. It also marks the gallery’s first annual charitable “Art to Heart” exhibit, which links social and community awareness with art and expression. All proceeds from the month-long event go to the Children’s Heart Foundation. And for little hearts everywhere, that may be the best Valentine’s Day gift of all.
